HUAWEI MATEBOOK X PRO!
Now let’s talk some about the amazing display of Huawei Matebook X Pro. You get a 13.9 inch display and 3:2 aspect ratio, which gives more vertical space compared to 16:9. But you will notice the borderlines when you watch youtube videos. The display is bright at 260 PPI and 3000 x 2000 resolution aka 3K with crystal clear image. The laptop has minimal bezels. This was possible because Huawei removed the webcam. With a 91% screen-to-body ratio, the bezels are small enough to place the Huawei screen in a chassis of a 13′ Apple MacBook.
The Huawei Matebook X Pro is compact and light, weighing at 1.33kg or 3 lbs. It has a unibody design and a backlit keyboard. Because of the compact design, a numeric keypad is not present. In the corner, you have a fingerprint power button. This is similar to some other laptops and is a nice touch. The webcam is hidden in the keyboard. Just press the key with the camera icon and the webcam pops up. It is for sure a weird location for a webcam. Instead of looking straight ahead, you’ll be looking down. If you’re having a video call/conference and typing simultaneously, your hands can be seen and look huge. The laptop has 4 speakers. Before moving on to the ports, keep in mind that a small laptop will offer fewer ports. On the left, you have 2 USB-c ports and a headphone jack. A single USB-A port on the right. You’d need a dongle if you expect to work with more accessories. The USB-C ports support a 4K monitor.
In specifications, you have a 10th gen i7 processor and 16 GB LPDDR3 RAM. I would’ve preferred LPDDR4, which is slightly faster. Huawei Matebook X Pro has 1 TB SSD. For graphics, you have NVIDIA MX 250 dedicated GPU. Because it’s a dedicated GPU, this laptop is meant for casual gaming. With too much gaming, thermal throttling is an issue. The laptop’s temp reached a 100ºF when I gamed for a small time. MX350 would emit more heat. If you need to use this laptop for gaming, I would suggest an external GPU for a smoother experience. You can use any apps, whether it’s photoshop or any light video editing, you can expect a lag-free experience. I forgot to mention this laptop is a touch-sensitive screen. You can expect all-day battery life for normal usage (web surfing) and 7 hours for heavy usage. The 65W adapter takes 40 min to charge 0-50% and provides full charge in 2.5 hours.
For everyday use, the only con I found is that you get wifi 5, instead of wifi 6. The pros of this laptop are the amazing screen with a clear display and the vertical space. Another pro is its lightweight design. It is compact enough to carry with you. The strange webcam location is a con. You have to look down at the keyboard instead of straight ahead. I would’ve preferred mx350 and LPDDR4 RAM.
