GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:
Shortly after the launch of the Galaxy S20, you can expect a good buy, but not the launch. It is at this time that the Galaxy S10 is very attractive. But if you want to go a little further, you may be thinking about Plus models. The difference can be more than R $ 150 between one and the other – does the S20 Plus have so much more than the S10 Plus that justifies so much more money? Or could last year’s top of the line still be a great choice in 2020? We prepared for you a complete comparison between these two cell phones so you can choose safely. Check it now here .
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:DESIGN
From the previous generation to the current Samsung decided not to touch much, after all, if the smartphone sells well, it already has small borders and the display reigns absolute. Still, some details are evident: the notch, for example, went from being a pill in the top corner right to a more discreet hole in the center, this year’s trend. At the rear, the iPhone brought the cue and the S20 Plus arranged its sensors in a module that resembles a domino piece in the upper right corner, while the S10 Plus bet on a strip horizontal with the cameras. The newer module is more protruding. Both have great construction, rear glass and aluminum frame, always with IP68 protection against water and dust. The corners are all well rounded, a little less on the S20 Plus. Both are Dual SIM and share the second cradle with MicroSD. The newer phone gains well in screen size without getting much bigger and its weight is following the previous model, which can be heavier or lighter depending on the type of finish, in glass or ceramic. As a disadvantage, the S20 Plus brings the end of the Bixby button, which became interesting when it became reconfigurable; and a sensor below the screen that is much slower than the S10 Plus, also on the same ultrasonic technology. So they are tied without much change in their robust body.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:SCREEN
It was already possible to say that the display of the S10 Plus was of excellent quality last year, and it is still very good, but it is possible to say that it was surpassed by that of the S20 Plus. Both have Dynamic AMOLED technology, but the S20 is new, now called 2X and according to Samsung, it has more color accuracy. The screen of the S20 Plus is 6.7 “, slightly larger than the 6.4” of the previous and the definition is practically the same 2K, enough that the PPIs of the youngest are not lost for the S10 Plus. The use of screen-body is better in the S20 Plus, which is now longer, with the 20:9 to 19:9 aspect ratio of the S10 Plus. The S20 Plus also has a stronger shine, good for use on the street, but its big news is the 120 Hz refresh rate, as well as the 240 Hz touch response. You can choose in the settings when you want a more fluid screen, good for games that support this function, but it will only work with the display set to Full HD. The colors are vivid and fall a little yellow, a factor that can be adjusted in the system. Both are protected by Gorilla Glass 6, so in the end, without discussion, the point is the Galaxy S20 Plus.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:AUDIO
The Galaxy S series was hit deadly in this regard. What was once a source of pride, the maintenance of the P2 connection, is no longer an advantage of this line. So, if you like this feature you will have to stick with last year’s line. The headphones that come in the box of the S20 Plus are the same as the S210 Plus, with AKG quality, but now they are USB-C. They have very good quality, very focused on bass. So, if you enjoy a good sound but are not an audiophile, you will be satisfied with any of them. Both have support for 32-Bit sound. On the external sound are two stereo cell phones, which leaves them in a great situation for media consumption and games – it’s a powerful sound, loud in both, and are similar in that regard. Samsung did not improve, but neither did it decrease, keeping good external audio. The point, then, is with the Galaxy S10 Plus that still brings the legacy of the P2 connection.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:FEATURES
The Galaxy S10 Plus indeed arrived with Android 9 Pie from the factory, but a few months ago it received Android 10, which puts it on a par with the Galaxy S20 Plus today. The two from One UI 2, Samsung’s interface, it is good to note that both should reach Android 11 but only the newest one should go for a new update next year. In use, One UI is an interface full of functions and the system, as a whole, is designed for large screens which makes it easier daily. Although the S10 Plus has many features, Samsung always improves from top of the line to another so the S20 Plus brings more things like AR features on the camera, pop-up conversation, which is also already arriving on the S10, and Dark Mode with more adjustments. Connections are more a matter of decision – the USB-C of the S20 Plus is a little newer but both bring more up-to-date Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, in addition to ANT +, NFC and DeX Mode, although it does not have an FM radio. Galaxy S20 Plus lost oxygen and heart rate sensors that were only for last year’s models. The point then stays with the Galaxy S20 Plus and it’s upgrades.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:PERFOMANCE
An important point for those who are thinking about buying a top of the line from last year. Is his performance far behind the most current? We’ve already noticed that here, in the case of both, the processing chosen for Brazil was from Samsung itself instead of Snapdragon with better performance. Apart from that, we have on the S10 Plus an Exynos 9820 with versions from 8 GB to 12 GB of RAM and with storage ranging from 128 GB to 1 TB. The S20 Plus has Exynos 990, more efficient, and only one version 8 GB and 128 GB of storage. The S20 Plus memory is also faster. In the benchmarks, the S20 Plus proves to be significantly more powerful, but what about our opening tests? In this case, the difference drops a lot and only two seconds less separate it from the previous model – and both are slower than last year’s Note 10 Plus. Of course, that doesn’t prevent them from being very good at productivity, holding apps well in the background and fluent in what needs to be done. Only the animations of the system stumble from time to time but do not hinder the use. In games, both have great performance and run anything at maximum graphics but on the S20 Plus, we have that advantage of the 120 Hz screen and the faster responding times for the display although there are still few games that accept this screen update. The point goes for the Galaxy S20 Plus.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:BATTERY
We haven’t yet reached the 5.000 mAh mark, but the S20 Plus’s 4.500 mAh are already numerically better than the 2019’s flagship 4110 mAh. But the results are worrying. Our standardized tests resulted in 17 hours of duration for the S20 Plus, two and a half hours less than the S10 Plus. Screen time is two hours less for the latest smartphone. The larger screen is a factor, but a likely lack of system optimization also gets in the way. The two will last all day in your hand even if you are very demanding and this is good, but a shorter duration on the S20 Plus is disappointing and gets even shorter if you put the 120 Hz screen. To recharge, both have wireless charging and still have that cool thing, reverse charging, where they can power other devices with wireless technology. for bringing a 25-watt charger, faster than the standard S10 Plus, the S20 Plus comes out of the socket in just over an hour, unlike the more than two hours of the older one. Less battery is bad, but the Galaxy S20 Plus pays off with other things and still lasts well, and because of that, they tie.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:CAMERA
The camera is always an important point for Samsung, one of the areas in which it invests the most from generation to generation, using this, even, as the main theme of their changes. We certainly had investments here. The Galaxy S10 Plus set is triple: a 12 MP main wide and variable aperture from 1.5 to 2.4, with PDAF, a 12 MP telephoto with 2x 16 MP ultra-wide optical zoom. These first two have optical stabilization. In the S20 Plus, we lose the variable aperture but there is something new. The 12 MP main wide and 1.8 aperture, a 64 MP telephoto with 3x hybrid optical zoom, an ultra-wide 12 MP and a 0.3 MP ToF sensor. The first two also have optical stabilization. The results are better with the S20 Plus. the 2019 phone already makes great photos and this has been improved in the 2020 model, especially with the photos in less light, which now gain Night mode, something missing in the S10 Plus. The ultra-wide does not make a huge difference compared to the main one and takes up more space in the photo. Telephoto is the biggest winner and the most megapixels allow you to crop the image bringing more details to the zoom – it’s not a 100x approach, as in the ultra model, but it is already far superior to the S10 Plus. There are a lot of features in the S20 Plus, mainly AR, but it lost Instagram Mode, which was quite famous on the S10 line. The point, then, is with the S20 Plus and its improvement in the cameras.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:RECORDING
In the video, there is also a clear superiority in the S20 Plus, because in addition to capturing videos in 8K at 24 fps, achieving a 10x zoom in 4K brings a professional recording mode which allows manual adjustments of the recording and dynamic focus, which makes the portrait mode in the video In real time. The S10 Plus stands out in good stabilization and audio capture, in addition to the agile focus. It captures 4K videos at 60 fps and makes good videos, but if you want to go further, the S20 Plus wins, so the point of the video is the Galaxy S20 Plus. Finally, the selfies – to improve the aesthetics of the device, Samsung cleaned the depth sensor that existed in the S10 Plus and left only one camera in its successor. In the S10 Plus, we have 10 megapixels with an aperture of 2.2, while the S10 Plus, in addition to the 8 MP depth sensor, it also has a 10 MP with 1.9 aperture. Very unusual, right? But still, the S20 Plus camera software is more accurate and brings more details, in addition to also having Dark Mode, which however distorts the colors, it is still one more option. They both shoot in 4K, but the S20 Plus does it at 60 fps too. The Portrait Mode, impressively, remained at the same quality. We then finished with one more point for the S20 Plus.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:PRICES
That sad and tearful hour has come. Taking the launch price into account is not a good idea, but it is for us to predict if the drop in the value of the device continues or if it arrived on a plateau. The Galaxy S10 Plus arrived starting at $ 1000, while the Galaxy S20 Plus came to R$ 1500 $ 500 more expensive – at today’s price, the average value of the newest cell phone is still above $ 500, but in some specific deals, it can drop to less than $ 450. Last year’s device has already experienced a more significant price drop, and a common price of just over R$ 3,000 is a standard. Sporadic promotions reach less than $ 180. The S20 Plus is expected to fall further, but the S10 Plus is the most cost-effective between the two. So, the Galaxy S10 plus gets this last point. The S20 Plus ends this comparison with double the points of its predecessor but make no mistake. The dots show who does better but that doesn’t mean that what you lose is a bad device with a price difference of $ 150 and with the S20 Plus still riding the $ 1000 line, the S10 Plus proves to be a worthy opponent and still very interesting for that, looking for a top of the line. It loses in screen and camera, mainly, but its performance is practically the same, the battery lasts longer and they are on the same Android system version.
GALAXY S10 PLUS VS S20 PLUS:CONCLUSION
Those who need to save money and want a Samsung they will not regret buying the older model. The S20 Plus should still drop in price and become a better option in a few months, but it will not disappoint anything in use for those who buy it. It is a more cost-effective version compared to the S20 Ultra, for example. Do you like the Samsung Galaxy S series? Do you think the S10 Plus still hits the head with other line tops 2020?
